J- We are doing a unit on structures in Science.
H- We have been doing lots of bridges and buildings with pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks and other things. We built this bridge out of cardboard, string, chairs and books. One neat fact about structures: when you are building a building, you build a triangle instead of a square, because it does not tilt as much.
J- If you have two triangles put together to make a square, the square can't tilt or bend.
A few details about the bridge:
C- There is a train track on the bridge.
J- The string and towers on either end (chair backs) hold the bridge up. The strings on our bridge are stretching, but on a normal bridge it would not stretch, because the ropes would be made of metal.
H- There are no support beams underneath.
