I really enjoyed this one, and we all got a "laugh" at the end - literally.

So, J & C spent some time today doing some more stop-motion film work. This one is the brain child of C, who did most of the photography himself. J joined in to help with the voices.

J- We are doing a unit on structures in Science.
H- We have been doing lots of bridges and buildings with pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks and other things. We built this bridge out of cardboard, string, chairs and books. One neat fact about structures: when you are building a building, you build a triangle instead of a square, because it does not tilt as much. J- If you have two triangles put together to make a square, the square can't tilt or bend. A few details about the bridge: C- There is a train track on the bridge. J- The string and towers on either end (chair backs) hold the bridge up. The strings on our bridge are stretching, but on a normal bridge it would not stretch, because the ropes would be made of metal. H- There are no support beams underneath. J's latest stop motion film is now live. "It is about C-3P0, and his friend Luke, and what happens when C-3PO invites Luke over for lunch." "Next time, I plan on using voices in my video" -J The monster from jamesnelson on Vimeo. Here is J's story board from this morning's planning session.
Our challenge was to have a beginning, middle and end to our story. J was also to have a problem that was resolved somehow (whether for good, or not) at the conclusion of the story. Dad even got to use fancy words like climax and denouement, and draw a plot diagram. Exciting! Here's J's rough plan for his film: C. has been working today, and created a new stop motion film. Q. What was your idea for the film? C. "I wanted to do Star Wars, and do cool music" (check, and check!) Q. What was your favourite part about making this film? C. "Putting on the songs...because I really like them!" Here it is - enjoy! the war of star wars from jamesnelson on Vimeo. "This film is about a person and his crazy day. I hope you like it!" - H. the biker's day from jamesnelson on Vimeo. Here is a stop motion film by J - "it's a Lego video game" Enjoy! the game from jamesnelson on Vimeo. We've decided to spend some time playing with stop-motion. The kids have all done these on their own, and really enjoy creating their stories. We've started using iMovie to create the film aspect, add sound effects and titles, etc. I am helping with the editing and such, but the creativity is theirs. This evening, we watched this video on how to up the quality of the kid's films: H and J have chosen a couple of goals to work on for future films:
1. Using a Lego board that is attached to a table to "keep the people from moving all over...make scenery...and keep them from falling over." 2. Keep the camera still (in one place). We're using an iPad for this, so we don't have a tripod. H has already created one this evening, which I will post. J wanted to work on one he had already created, which resulted in much cropping in post - but he persevered! I am stoked to see how their next batch of films turn out! We will work on story boarding and such for their next projects. -j This is an early attempt at stop motion film created by C, age 5, with help in taking images from J, and positioning help from H. Editing help from Dad in iMovie. C says "I like it, because there is a really funny part". Enjoy! The Worker's Job from jamesnelson on Vimeo. |
